Spring is in the air!
Whether you’re the type of person who loves spring cleaning or sees it as a chore, there’s no denying that most of us probably need to do it. And with warmer weather rolling in after a long winter, it’s certainly something that might be on your mind. We thought this would be a good time to share a few tips to help make your spring cleaning easier, whether you love doing it or not!
It’s easy to feel overwhelmed if you think about “all the work that needs to be done.” To help avoid that feeling, start with cleaning a small area or a few small items at a time. Breaking your cleaning up into smaller parts can make you feel like you’re really making progress.
Inspect Your Cleaning Supplies
Before you get started, take a look at your cleaning supplies and make sure you have enough. That way you won’t run out in the middle of cleaning and have to make an annoying run to the store. Also, when choosing cleaning products, consider using environmentally friendly cleaners.
Clear the Clutter
Have things piled up in a corner over the last few months (or years)? There’s a little packrat in a lot of us. Spring cleaning is a good time to try to get rid of that clutter. You can clear the clutter easier if you divide the items into four categories:
- Things to give away
- Things to sell
- Things to keep
- Things to throw away
Get Everyone Involved
Make spring cleaning a household event. Even young children can be excellent and willing helpers! Assign age-appropriate chores so everyone has something they can contribute to the effort.
Homemade Cleaning Products
Making your own household cleaners can be fun and save you money. Many household items can be cleaned with simple ingredients you already have around the house. You can find ideas and recipes for cleaners online. We like this list from Good Housekeeping.
With these tips and ideas and a positive attitude, spring cleaning can go from inconvenient chore to fun activity! And in those moments where you wish you were doing something else, just remember summer is almost here! That should put a smile on your face.
